LiveSTRONG Global Cancer Awareness Event ~ Guest Post
Dear Supporters,
When we first heard that LIVESTRONG were hosting a global awareness day on October 2nd 2010, and were encouraging everyone to show their support by wearing YELLOW that day ~ we knew we had to join in. And since we are Cat Bloggers ~ we thought the best way to do this was by going YELLOW on our blog and asking our fellow bloggers to do the same. We had no idea that we would get so much enthusiastic support ~ and we cannot thank you all enough. Ann at Zoolatry kindly created the wonderful LiveStrong cat-image for us ~ and quite quickly after our first post about our intentions, we noticed the image appearing in blog after blog in the sidebars. We decided the best ones would be our first post about us (well, the us at the time), the post where we added Barney to the family, and the post where Gus and Stella joined the group! It was really hard because there are so many wonderful posts to pick from (well, I think so at least!)
So here is our second post - About the Cats. It is about the 4 cats we had at the time - Floyd, Kirzon, Lola and Virgl. See, we started the blog with just a picture of each, which is why I chose the second post, which actually talks about them. At the time we had no real followers, but it gives a nice overview of all the cats - Virgil was still a baby then!

Adpot-A-Less-Adoptable-Pet Week
I would like to thank Bocci & his person Joan for suggesting this post. We were going to do a guest-post situation, but with time constraints and my mom persons addled-confusion brain we're just posting it here.

This week is Petfinder.com's Adopt-A-Less-Adoptable-Pet Week, a week dedicated to spotlighting those pets that are most often overlooked in shelters. So many shelter pets are overlooked because they are the wrong color, because they are senior pets, or because they have special needs.
These pets have so much love to give and are just looking for their forever home.
So BlogPaws Be the Change for Pets and I are taking up the cause for the Be the Change Challenge!
So who are these "less adoptable" pets? According to a survey of Petfinder membershelters and rescues the hardest to adopt out pets are senior or older pets, those with health problems (even minor ones), victims of breed prejudice (like Pit Bulls), shy pets, and those that need to be only pets. But that's not all! A lot of people overlook black and brindle dogs and cats as well.
Here are just a few reasons to love "special" pets:
• Older pets are mellower - you don't have to worry about your lamp getting knocked over!
• Physically challenged pets are often unaffected by their handicap - but you still look like a hero!
• With "bad reputation" breeds, you get the chance to prove people wrong with your great dog!
• Dark-furred pets make it easy to accessorize - black goes with everything!
• Pets with behavioral issues allow you to form a tight bond as you overcome obstacles together!
• Big dogs are easier to find when it's time to go to the vet!
I'd like to show you Deputy, he's a terrier mix who is considered special needs because he can't be with children under 12. He's only a year old and he get overlooked because he has the crazy-hypers.
He will be a great forever friend to someone who has time to train him and teach him how to be a good pup. How many of us had the crazy-hypers when we were little? I know I did. Deputy is available from the Michigan Humane Society.
So next time you or a friend are looking to adopt, give these pets a second chance, a little more time and you never know, a less adoptable pet might just be the purrr-fect pet adoption for you!

By the looks of these classes, she says that she willprobably not have as much time as she would like for Pet Blogs United and that's where you come in.

Guest Post: Adopt A Less-Adoptable-Pet Week, by Mayzie
Okay, as we all know, this is a big week cuz it’s National Dog Week. But did you know it’s also Adopt-a-Less-Adoptable Pet Week?
Yep, that’s right! BlogPaws and Petfinder have linked up and decided that it would just be super great to try to shine the spotlight on doggies and kittehs who have a harder time finding homes. You know – the ones that are more “mature,” or have a handicap, or look a certain way.
You know, pets like me!
Now, I know you’re prolly thinking that’s the ker-aziest thing you ever heard. Considering, well, I’m sort of Most Adorable.
But the truth of the matter is that lots of peoples are skeered of doggies that look like me. And not only that, but when I first got rescued, I was super afraid of lots of stuff. And peoples want to adopt doggies who are pawfectly happy and well-adjusted. So prolly if my mom and dad hadn’t come along when they did, I mighta had a real hard time finding my Most Perfect Home That Ever Was.
And that’s the way it is for my furend, Chloe.
Chloe is being taken care of by the rescue that rescued me – Second Chance Animal Rescue Foundation.
The best they can figure out, Chloe is a greyhound/American Staffordshire Terrier. It’s kinda funny cuz when you look at her body, she sure looks like a greyhound. But when you look at her face, she sure looks like an AmStaff.
Now, me and mom thinks she’s got the Most Beautifulest face. But we have a feeling that when peoples look at Chloe, they don’t see how sweet she is or how smart she is or how she’s really good at playing frisbee. They don’t see that she’s a good girl with great house manners who’s housetrained and crate trained. They don’t see how much spunk she has, or that she luvs to play and explore. And they don’t see how she luvs peoples and dogs and even kittehs.
No, when they look at Chloe, all they see is that somebuddy at some point cut off her poor little ears.
And when they did that, it made her look intimidating and skeery to some peoples. And cuz of that – that one little thing that she can’t help – she hasn’t been able to find anybuddy to gives her the furever home she deserves.
It doesn’t make any sense to me, cuz all peoples have to do is look past her ears and look into her eyes to know that giving Chloe a home is prolly the best thing they could ever, ever do.

Say Your Name!
We want to know what your real name is. I actually have 2 real names. My AKC name is Mimi's Oskar Diamond Magic. That's because after about a year of research, my people decided a miniature schnauzer was the dog for them. They couldn't find any in a shelter, so my mom person found a great breeder, the only problem was she didn't have the money.
Well while listening to the "Magic" morning radio show, she won front & center Neil "Diamond" concert tickets. She sold them on e-Bay for a small fortune & was able to afford me!
My given name is Oskar Wilhelm. My people are German & so are us schnauzers, so a German name it was for me!
I thought I'd leave you with a shot of Baby Oskar.

Sorry for being late with this friends, we are used to being more focused on the canine side of things, since we are usually blogging for Oskar, but here at Pet Blogs United, we aim to support all pets, so meow/arrrrgh your little hearts out kitties!

Go Away Michael Vick!
This morning on my way from getting Oskar some foodables, I drove past a local Catholic church that had this sign out, "Lock up your beagles, the Lions are playing Vick & the Eagles!"
I can't believe the NFL let this monster back in. The animal rights groups will reportedly be at Ford Field in Detroit in full force this weekend & good for them!

Featured Blogger ~ Bruce The Cat
That's handsome Bruce right next to me in the header picture!
Here's what Bruce has to say about himself:
I got my name from the racing legend, Bruce Leven. Seems my boss used to be one of Bruce's crew chiefs. I'm just one of the boys at the shop, always willing to lend a helping paw or give a few meows of advice.
I am a shop cat and my shop pals restore Porsche racing cars so there is always lots of manstuff going on around here. Life is good and I am one happy cat :)
Yep, he is the cat behind a super cool race car team, exciting huh?
First we have a post about how Bruce came to live at the shop, Looking Back. It's a great post about love and finding your forever home.
Lots of cool stuff in his post Walking Down Memory Lane Part 1. We even get to see Bruce in a yellow Care Bears Bandana, teehee!
